==History==
Ust-Maya was founded in 1930 as a base for gold mining activities on the Allakh-Yun and Yudoma rivers to the east. It was made the administrative centre of the newly created Ust-Maysky District in 1931.
During World War II, an airfield was built here for the Alaska-Siberian (ALSIB) air route used to ferry American Lend-Lease aircraft to the Eastern Front.〔Lebedev, Igor ''Aviation Lend-Lease to Russia'' Nova Publishers (1997) pp.44-49〕
In 1957 Ust-Maya received urban-type settlement status, however the district administration was moved to the settlement of Solnechny in 1972, remaining there until it returned to Ust-Maya in 1992.
