Polia ((ギリシア語:polis, ''city''), (ギリシア語:πόλις, ''city'')) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Vibo Valentia in the Italian region of Calabria. It is located about southwest of Catanzaro and about northeast of Vibo Valentia. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,224 and an area of .〔All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.〕 Polia's origins date back to 5th|8th centuries BC when Greek pioneers coming from the Gulf of Squillace, located on the east coast of Calabria facing the Ionian Sea, decided to settle on a valley today known as Jammene (from (ギリシア語:iama-enes, fertile place)) thus permitting to ease goods traffic between Greece and Rome through the Apennine Mountains.
