Pimpri-Chinchwad is a city area in the Pune Metropolitan Region in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is the urban agglomeration of Pune city. It consists of the towns of Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Akurdi, Ravet, Bhosari, Hinjewadi, Moshi, Punawale, and Sangavi, which are governed by a common municipal body (the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation or PCMC). It is located to the north-west and is well connected to the center of Pune city via the Old Pune-Mumbai Highway. ==Demographics== India census, Pimpri-Chinchwad had a population of 1,729,320. Pimpri-Chinchwad has an average literacy rate of 87.19, higher than the national average of 74.04%. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. The main language spoken in the town is Marathi. There is a significant Sindhi population present in Pimpri.
