Octameter in poetry is a line of eight metrical feet. It is not very common in English verse. E.g.: - ''Trochaic'' :Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary :Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore- :While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping :As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door :(Edgar Allan Poe, "The Raven") ''Iambic'' :I am the very model of a modern Major-General, :I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral, :I know the kings of England, and I quote the fights historical :From Marathon to Waterloo, in order categorical; :I'm very well-acquainted, too, with matters mathematical, :I understand equations, both the simple and quadratical, :About binomial theorem I'm teeming with a lot o' news, :With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse. :(W.S.
