WeChat () is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in China, first released in January 2011. The original version of the app, "Weixin", was invented by Xiaolong Zhang, and named by Ma Huateng, Tencent CEO. In April 2012, Weixin was re-branded as WeChat for the international market.
