The station is licensed in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to Cumulus Media. It aired throughout the '90s until 2001, when it was replaced with Rick Dees' Weekly Top 40. ''Airbound'', a Citadel Communications-owned new music program hosted by Tony Bristol, also aired in the 2000s, but was canceled in 2007. Outside of the station's current Hot AC format, WXLO airs Specialty Programming, spotlighting the music of the 1980s with the Wayback Lunch, and the Awesome 80's Saturday Night. WXLO also spotlights that genre of music with an annual event known as the "Awesome 80's Prom". WXLO also hosts an annual Acoustic Christmas event at Mechanics Hall in Worcester that has featured artists such as Train, Guster, Lee Dewyze, Daughtry, Delta Rae, Stephen Page, Gavin DeGraw, and Andy Grammer.
