Sukhera
Sukhera people inhabit Southern Pakistani Punjab and in adjacent areas of India on the opposite side of border. They ruled large parts of the Indian subcontinent, as kings and tribal heads.
Sukheras claim descent from Sukha, son of Thirpal, a Tonwar Rajput. Sukheras are one of the main Pro British Raj tribes of Punjab. Sukheras have close family linkages with Wattu, Bhatti and Meos tribes. Raja Anangpal was a Raja of Tomar Chattri Rajput. His sons Raja Tejpal and Raja Tehenpal were the forefathers of the Tomar Meos. Colonel Todd states that the word ''pal'' means mountains.Meos community has 12 Pals and 52 clans. Todd says that Meo, Meer, Mehar and Pal means hill or mountain. Wattu, Bhatti,Manj,Mekan,Samma,also derive their name from word Watt meaning thereby Mountain.The forefathers of above tribes used to live on the Arravali or Arbali(Derived fron Arya) which passes through Mewat region and ends at Bombay. However, DNA and genealogy of above mentioned tribe is also similar but most of them do not know each other.It is a vast area of research for the Anthropologists and Genealogists.Research conducted on the Meos of India and Pakistan shows that 100 percent Meos belongs to Human Haplo group R1a1a1 which is specific to Aryans.Sukhera tribe has the same genealogy as the Meos have.
In the nineteenth century, Sukheras started living in Abohar Tehsil Ferozpur, India. In the beginning of the nineteenth century, Abohar was uninhabited, and the vicinity was a desert.
Muslim Sukheras migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and established themselves in South Punjab as landlords. Later, Sukheras established residence in Sahiwal, Arifwala, Pakpattan, Bahawalpur Lodrhan, Haroonabad,Minchin Abad Fort Marot (in Tehsil Fort Abbas), Depalpur and Lahore. Sukheras also have traces from Sanghar in Sindh. Sarwar Sukhera, a journalist and founder of Dhanak magazine is amongst the famous Sukheras. There are also many other famous names in Sukhera Tribe like Mushtaq Sukherra ( Inspector General Punjab Police ).Awais Akram Sukhera from Arifwala is a corporate farmer and is a well known foreign qualified lawyer as well.
