It is the district capital of Sesfontein Constituency, its population is 7,358. Sesfontein derives its name from the six fountains which have their source in the vicinity. The most well known landmark of Sesfontein is an old fort called Fort Sesfontein (also referred to as Sesfontein Fort). Almost a hundred years after it was first built, the historical monument, originally a police outpost, was reconstructed and equipped to accommodate tourists.
