Panjera

Panjera is a historic town in the district Kotli in Azad Kashmir situated at Kotli Plandary road about 15 kilometers from Kotli city in the west. Panjera town was burnt once when a rebellious movement against the Dogra Raj in 1947 was initiated.
Panjera is a central point of areas such as Takya Syedan, Shahpur, Ball, Chaer, Kotla, Channi, Odhay, Chak, Nully, Siah, Gangnara, Aryam, Kainee, Dahra, Grraee, Adradh, and Tahlian. There is a network of link roads that have recently been laid down which has made the area more progressive.
The area is influenced by the Pothohar culture. Pothohari() is very popular and folk festivals provide opportunity to arrange the functions of Pothohari poetry artists.
The Panjera Valley is full of beauty with streams, waterfalls and forests. People cultivate wheat and maize. Goat rearing and Domestic buffalo are also popular in the area. Panjera town is very progressive in economic context due to its catchment area. Fruit trees like citrus, guava, mulberry, and apricot are grown. The town reflects a beautiful compact market with excellent business prospects. Area is progressing economically due to the contributions from immigrants, especially from Britain. There are good small industrial units of furniture, poultry farming and construction blocks. The town is linked with Rawalpindi through Sehensa, Holahar and Pullandari Azad Pattan. North of Panjera is surrounded by beautiful cliffs of lower Himalayas. The area is surrounded by two perennial streams exhibiting marvelous freshwater ecosystem. The fish in these streams are very delicious, and unfortunately are being killed by explosives.
There is a boys and girls college and more than five public schools at Panjera providing the energetic and educated young generation to the country. There are famous Dargahs and religious festivals are often arranged where horse racing and Kabaddi are the main events.

A very interesting thing about Panjera is the huge population of bats living on the trees of an old orchard. They are in the thousands. They spend their days on these trees and start their journey to the north in the evening in search of temperate fruit.
