It is a form of entomomancy (from Greek ''entomon'' "insect"), which is itself theriomantic (from Greek ''therion'' "wild beast"; also known as "zoomancy"). People who use this divination technique subscribe to the worldview that the movements of ants are, in some supernatural way, ultimately connected with their life and that an understanding of these movements enables one to learn about the future.
