Komen

Komen () is a settlement in Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Komen. It is located on the Karst Plateau in the Slovenian Littoral.〔(Komen municipal site )〕
==Name==
Komen was attested in written sources in 1247 as ''Cominum'' (and as ''Cumin'' in 1255, ''de Cumino'' in 1269, and ''Comein'' in 1526). The name is probably derived from the Slavic common noun ''
*komъ'' 'hill, mountain, elevation'. Derivation from the noun ''komin'' 'stove, chimney' is unlikely for accentual reasons.〔Snoj, Marko. 2009. ''Etimološki slovar slovenskih zemljepisnih imen''. Ljubljana: Modrijan and Založba ZRC, p. 197.〕
