Kalkulam

Kalkulam is a village in Kanniyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.Up to 1957, Kalkulam Taluk wherein Kalkulam is situated formed part of the Travancore Kingdom and subsequently the Travancore-Cochin State. It was when the States were divided on linguistic basis that Kalkulam, Thovalai, Vilavancode, and Agastheeswaram Taluks of erstwhile Thiruvananthapuram District of the then Travancore- Cochin State were included in the then Madras State (later renamed as Tamil Nadu) as Kanyakumari District.
== Demographics ==

As per the 2001 census, Kalkulam had a total population of 6,509 with 3,121 males and 3,388 females. The literacy rate was 83.55.〔http://census2001.tn.nic.in/pca2001.aspxRural - Kanniyakumari District;Kalkulam Taluk;Kalkulam〕
