KXPS, "Team 1010," is an all-sports radio station based in Palm Desert, California, United States. It broadcasts on the 1010 AM frequency.
Its lineup comes from a variety of sources: ''The Dan Patrick Show'' from Fox Sports Radio and ''The Jim Rome Show'' from CBS Sports Radio, with the remainder of their non-local programming coming from NBC Sports Radio and CBS Sports Radio. The station offers local programming during the weekdays with The Daily Blender from 12p-1p Hosted by Jeffry O'Brien and co-hosted by Heath Scarinci and Anthony Ghirardi. The other local weekday programming is the longest standing show on the station, Buehler's Day Off hosted by Julie Buehler and Geoff "The Dome" Bloom, along with James "Domeski" Dempsey running the board, which airs from 1p-4p. Team 1010 also carries local weekend programming that starts at 8 am and goes till 11 am; "Prep Sports Weekly" hosted by Kevin Pillow, "Golf is a 4 Letter Word" host by Françoise Rhodes.
Play By Play
The station moved ownership from the Desert Radio Group to CRC Media West in 2011 and in the move gained rights to numerous play by play properties in the Coachella Valley. They began airing USC Trojans Football in 2012 as well as Oakland Raiders Football, Los Angeles Clippers Basketball, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Baseball (all of which were sports properties on stations owned by R&R Broadcasting.
In 2013, in partnership with the Cathedral City Auto Center, the station began airing a High School Game of the Week with a team of announcers rotating to call the action. They began with Varsity Football in September of 2013 with Pete Fox as lead announcer and Mark Lecair on Color Commentary. The second team was the son/father combination of Scott and Dennis Hennessee, with Scott on lead and Dennis on color. The third team also featured Dennis Hennessee on Color and Prep Sports Weekly host, Kevin Pillow, on Lead. After the departure of Pete Fox to ESPN Radio and NBC Sports Radio as well as Scott Hennessee to KCOY-TV, that left Kevin Pillow as the #1 Announcer for High School play-by-play. Kevin officially took over as the lead announcer at the tail end of the 2013 Football season, where he finished off with Dennis as color commentary. Kevin was the lead announcer through the winter and spring season, covering soccer, basketball and baseball. Kevin Pillow remains the lead announcer on the #1 Team for Play by Play, with Eddie Trent, a former television Sports Anchor, as the color commentator. With the addition of Eddie Trent to the fold and the promotion of station intern, Phillip Catalfamo, the High School Game of the Week now has a #2 Team with Phil and Eddie alternating between Play by Play and Color.
Originally launched in 1961 as KPSI 1010AM, it went through different changes under radio stations KCLB/KCHV, KDES, "K-News" (KCMJ) and KREO/KUNA in the 1970s, 80s & 90s would use that AM dial for temporary periods of time.
