Jalgaon

Jalgaon () is a city in western India, to the north of the Maharashtra state in Jalgaon District, which itself is located on the northern Deccan Plateau. Located within the productive, irrigated agricultural region of Khandesh, Jalgaon has a municipal corporation and had 460,468 residents at the 2011 census. Situated near the famous Ajanta Caves located just about 59 kilometers(36.6609 miles) away, is one of the key attraction places for tourists. Jalgaon is connected with Central Railway zone, National Highway No.6, and also has Airport.
Modern Jalgaon has major industrial areas, educational institutes and good hospitals. The city is well developed with good roads, shopping malls, residential areas, and also has good communication and transport infrastructure. Known as "Banana-City", it contributes to about half of the Maharashtra state's Banana production. The world's first Audio Guided Gandhi Museum ("Khoj Gandhiji Ki" ) is situated at Gandhi Teerth, Jain Hills, Jalgaon. Gandhi Scholars and visitors from all over the world visit this place. In the museum, there is a large Gandhi Library and other Gandhi related material are available for study.
Jalgaon has relatively varied climate. It is exceptionally hot and dry during summer with temperatures reaching as high as 47 degrees Celsius within period of May end to June mid. The highest temperature recording in May 2010 was 49.2 degrees Celsius. Jalgaon receives about 700 mm rainfall during monsoons, followed by pleasant temperature in winter.
Pratibha Patil, the 12th President of India, Ujwal Nikam and Shashank Shankhapal are among the famous personalities from Jalgaon.
==History==
Jalgaon was established by The Marathas; Sardar Tulajirao Bhoite founded this town. He belonged to The Satara District. Early noblemen from this family were Durgojirao Bhoite, faithful of Chhatrapati Shahu received grants of Baglan, Parganas like Nashirabad, Savaladbhare, Sovanibhare along with Senapati Dabhade by Chhatrapati. Bhoites remained rulers of their Saranjam centered at Jalgaon and built a mansion, now recognised as Bhoite Gadhi.
