Heddon-on-the-Wall is a village just outside Throckley, Northumberland, England, located on Hadrian's Wall. Heddon-on-the-Wall is roughly west of the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. The place-name 'Heddon' means 'hill where heather grew'. ==Etymology== Heddon seems in origin to be an Old English name, deriving from the personal name ''Hidda'' + *''winn'' 'pasture', thus 'Hidda's pasture'.〔Bethany Fox, 'The P-Celtic Place-Names of North-East England and South-East Scotland', The Heroic Age, 10 (2007), http://www.heroicage.org/issues/10/fox.html (appendix at http://www.heroicage.org/issues/10/fox-appendix.html).〕
