Dioscorides wrote ''De Materia Medica'' in Greek, his native language. He was employed as a medic in the Roman army. ==Life== A native of Anazarbus, Cilicia, Asia Minor, Dioscorides practised medicine in Rome during the reign of the emperor Nero.
