Devkota

In Nepal and India, some Brahmin communities use Devkota as their surname. This surname belongs to the Pahadi Brahmin community of Nepal. Devkota may simply refer to Laxmi Prasad Devkota.
== Surname Origin ==

There are two hypothesis for the originating of surname Devkota. One hypothesis is that the holy bramhin who devoted his whole life and time to dev(god, Nepali:देव)and generally called "deuketo"(Nepali:देउकेटो) and later on called to Devkota (Nepali:देवकोटा), other hypothesis is that milions of worships (Nepali:कोटी, कोटी प्रणाम; पुजा) for god(Nepali:देव), lateral on called "devkoti"(Nepali:देवकोटी); as time goes and called Devkota (Nepali:देवकोटा)
Devkota surname has its origin to a place called Devkot in Achham district, Nepal. Many Khas Brahmin surnames have their origin from various places around this area. Brahmin community, including Devkotas spread from their root places (these used to be parts of prosperous Khas Kingdom in the past). As they spread these Brahmins were known by the places/villages they came from and Devkota is one of them.
Traditionally, these Brahmins worked as teachers and priests.
Laxmi Prasad Devkota is considered one of the greatest poets of Nepali language. He has been given the title of "Maha Kavi" ("The Great Poet") in Nepali literature.
