Corps

A corps ( "core"; the plural is spelled the same as singular but pronounced "cores"; from French, from the Latin ''corpus'' "body") is an organized body of people.
It may be:
*A large military formation composed of two or more military divisions. There is no rule for the size of a corps, but typically it might consist of 20,000 to 40,000 soldiers.
*A professional branch of the armed forces such as a medical corps, signal corps, marine corps, etc.
*A civilian public organization such as a police corps, ambulance corps, Civil Defence Corps, etc.
==Military formation==
In many armies, a corps is a battlefield formation composed of two or more divisions, and typically commanded by a lieutenant general. During World War I and World War II, due to the large scale of combat, multiple corps were combined into armies which then formed into army groups. In Western armies with numbered corps, the number is often indicated in Roman numerals (e.g., VII Corps).
