CKXL-FM is a community owned French-language radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba, that broadcasts on the FM band at a frequency of 91.1 FM. The station's studio is located in Winnipeg's St. Boniface district, where it is licensed. It broadcasts a public radio format that it is 80% Manitoba content. It was started by ''La Radio Communautaire du Manitoba Inc.'' in 1989. CKXL broadcasts from the Franco-Manitoban Cultural Centre (CCFM) in St. Boniface. ==History== CKXL first went on the air on June 24, 1989 on the 101.5 FM frequency, with a temporary license.〔(Decision CRTC 89-318 )〕 It owned a mobile broadcast unit which travelled throughout the French communities of Manitoba during the summer of 1989. The mobile unit had a low power transmitter with an eight-mile radius. During this trial run, Winnipeggers were able to listen to CKXL on June 30, July 1 and during Folklorama '89.
