Banpeiyu ((日本語:晩白柚)) is a cultivar of pomelo which produces extremely large fruits.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Agricultural Products: Banpeiyu Citrus )〕 A Banpeiyu fruit became the worlds heaviest pomelo when it was presented by Seiji Sonoda from Japan for the Guinness World Record at the Banpeiyu Competition in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto, Japan on the 25th of December 2005. Nevertheless, it is assumed to be of unknown, possibly Malayan origin, and arrived in Japan via Taiwan where it was introduced in 1920, and is sometimes referred to as a Taiwan Pomelo.
