Al-Hamdan

Al-Hamdan or Hamdan ((アラビア語:ال حمدان)) is a famous Druze family. A part of them was banished from Lebanon after the Battle of Ain Dara in 1711 (between Yemeni Druze, headed by the Hamdan and Al-Atrash families and Kaysi Druze headed by the Jumblat and Arsalan families) and were among the first to migrate to Jabal ad-Duruz in Southern Syria. But the other part stayed in Lebanon, and many had high places in the government, and they still live today in Lebanon Bater ech chouf, Sawfar, Ain Anoub, Beit Meri, Hasbaya, and Kebbaih. And from their ancestors were Sayf al-Dawla and Abu Firas al-Hamdani and many more great royal poets and knights in Aleppo and Mosul. The Al-Hamdan became leaders in Jabal al-Duruz, but they lost their position to al-Atrash family in 1869. They were almost wiped out in the events. They still live today in different parts of Jabal ad-Duruz.
In the early 18th-century the village of Najran near the Lejah plain served as the center of al-Hamdan power in Jabal al-Duruz.〔Firro, 1992, p. 40.〕
