He scored four goals in the final of the 1957 African Cup of Nations, which is still a record.〔''West Africa'' magazine, 2000.〕〔Peter Alegi, ''African Soccerscapes: How a Continent Changed the World's Game'', 2010, p. 67.〕〔''Focus on Africa'' BBC magazine: Volumes 16–17, BBC African Service – 2005.〕 He also scored the winning goal in Egypt's semi-final victory over Sudan.〔(African Nations Cup 1957 results and lineups ) at RSSSF.〕
After retiring as a player, Ad-Diba became a noted referee, officiating at the final of the 1968 Africa Cup of Nations.
In 2007 he was included in an initial list by the Confederation of African Football of the top 200 African footballers of all time.
