(chd), v. t.[imp.Chid (chd), or Chode (chd Obs.); p. p.Chidden (), Chid; p. pr. & vb. n.Chiding.] [AS. cdan; of unknown origin.] 1. To rebuke; to reprove; to scold; to find fault with. Upbraided, chid, and rated at. Shak. 2. Fig.: To be noisy about; to chafe against. The sea that chides the banks of England. Shak.
