President Adar

President Adar is a fictional character in the 1978 TV series ''Battlestar Galactica'', played by Lew Ayres. He appears in the pilot episode, "Saga of a Star World", as the last elected President of the Quorum of the Twelve.
Relying on Count Baltar for advice, Adar orders the Colonial fleet not to assume a defensive posture as they are ambushed by a horde of 1000 Cylon raiders. When told that the Cylons are likely simultaneously attacking the colony worlds as well, Adar dies in despair realizing the cost of his mistake aboard his flagship, the Battlestar ''Atlantia'', when it is destroyed during the Destruction of the Twelve Colonies.
The novelization of the pilot episode revealed that he and Commander Adama had attended the Colonial Academy together and the close spellings of their names meant that they had taken many classes together.
President Adar's analogue in the reimagined series is Richard Adar.
