Harworth

Harworth is a small town in the county of Nottinghamshire, East Midlands of England, United Kingdom. It is approximately north of Worksop. Together with its neighbour mining town of Bircotes, it forms the civil parish of Harworth and Bircotes, with a combined population of nearly 8,000 residents. The settlements are part of the modern district of Bassetlaw - two districts combined (the district of Worksop and the district of retford).
The Harworth coal mine used to produce coal for the power stations on the River Trent. The Colliery was 'mothballed' in 2003.
==Etymology==
The town's name is from Old English ''har'' "grey" (compare modern hoary") and
''worth'' (also ''worō'', ''worþ'') "enclosure". The name was recorded as ''Herwirth'' in 1136.
