Result"ant (), a.[L. resultans, p. pr. : cf. F. rsultant.] Resulting or issuing from a combination; existing or following as a result or consequence. Resultant force or motion (Mech.), a force which is the result of two or more forces acting conjointly, or a motion which is the result of two or more motions combined. See Composition of forces, under Composition.
Result"ant n.That which results. Specifically: (a) (Mech.) A reultant force or motion. (b) (Math.) An eliminant. The resultant of homogeneous general functions of n variables is that function of their coefficients which, equaled to zero, expresses in the simplest terms the condition of the possibility of their existence.
